City of Konawa has developed an Emergency Preparedness Plan (Click here a copy of the plan)

The City of Konawa is working to improve Emergency Preparedness for the Konawa Community.  James Wilkins was recently named the Emergency Management Coordinator for Konawa.  In an attempt to provide information during crisis or emergency situations, the City is setting up a voice call system where residents are called and alerted to things such as Boil Orders, Boil Orders Lifted, Tornado Siren sounded, etc.  The City will be able to upload a message and have that message sent to local residents via telephone calls.  The message will play for either a live answered phone or an answering machine.  Caller IDs will display City of Konawa .  The City is in the process of setting up the Emergency Alert Message System now.  This week volunteers will begin contacting people with listed telephone numbers to gather crucial information.  If a resident does not want to receive the alert calls then he/she can decline to be included.  There is also the option to add a cell phone number.  For residents with non-listed home phone numbers they will have to contact the City Hall directly to be added to the call list.  Volunteers will be calling to ask several questions:

  1. Do you wish to have your home number included in the Emergency Alert Message System call list?
  2. Do you wish to add a cell phone number to the call list?
  3. Do you live in the City Limits?
  4. Does anyone in your home have limited mobility and may require help in an emergency situation?
  5. Does anyone in your home utilize oxygen full-time?
  6. Do you have a storm shelter which you would take shelter in?  If so, where on your property.

These questions will help emergency responders prioritize in search and rescue efforts. Please help spread the word about this new form of communication.  For more information please contact City Hall at 580-925-3775 or email cityofkonawa@sbcglobal.net with your questions or to add your information to the list.
