Grants Update as of August 19, 2011

 

The following is a list of grants that have been received over the past three years or are    being applied for at this time along with the status of each.

 

Senior Center

bullet2010 COEDD CENA- $1860 – van insurance, building insurance, front entry work. Complete and Closed.
bullet2011 COEDD CENA - $3380 van insurance, building insurance, ADA accessible automatic door opener for front entry. Complete and Closed
bullet2011 MSC -$ 4,100 - front entry lighting, flooring, as well as handicap access opener and cover over back door/van parking area. Complete and Closed
bullet2012 COEDD CENA – Van and Building insurance; 500 gallon back up water tank and installation. AWARDED $1350 for Tank only but switching to Insurance only 8/2011.
bullet2012 MSC - $2000 – Insurance

 

Fire Department

bullet2008 FEMA SAFER Grant (5 year grant) - $18,947 – We have just started the 4th year of this grant and it pays for Accident, Death & Disability Aflac policies, Annual Firefighters Pension payment, Annual Workers Compensation, Length of Service Awards presented   Annual Appreciation Banquet, and First Responder Training - OPEN
bulletUSDA Rural Development Loan/Grant Program – Pumper – $206, 097  ($126,097 down by Fire Dept. County Sales Tax Fund, $30,000 Grant, $50,000 loan). Complete and Closed.
bullet2009 FEMA AFG for Building - $54,198 -  Mounted exhaust removal system, Washer/extractor for turn-out gear and equipment, firefighter training  - Equipment purchased and installed.  OPEN Finishing training by 12/2011.
bullet2011 FEMA AFG - Applying for Rescue Truck (in progress)
bullet2012 COEDD 80/20 – Applying for Tanker Truck chassis (in progress)

 

EMS

bullet2009 FEMA AFG - $36, 898 – Hydraulic Stretchers and Automatic Electronic Defibrillators. Complete and Closed.
bullet2011 FEMA AFG – Applying for new ambulance (in progress)

 

Police

bullet2010 JAG - $9500 newer police car.  Complete and Closed
bullet2011 JAG - $8,664 – new police radios (7 handhelds, 4 mobile and 1 base) – Awarded 8/2011.

 

Sewer Plan

bulletLoan/Grant with USDA ($3 million grant, $1 million loan).  Waiting for closing instructions from USDA.

 

Water

bullet2010 Emergency OWRB Grant - $79,937 – raw water line replacement from well field to water treatment plant and main transmission line pump. Complete and Closed
bullet2010 ODOC CDBG Water and Wastewater Construction –$245,840 -  Purchase of two back up generators for water wells and water treatment plant, and rehabilitation of 300,000 gallon underground storage tank, installation of approx. ½ mile of potable main water line coming from the treatment plant toward town. Received.  Complete waiting to close.
bullet2011 OWRB REAP - $99,000 – platforms required by DEQ for new wells and main potable water line. We are 3rd on the list.
bulletEmergency USDA Rural Development - $150,000 – redrilling of wells with all related costs and appropriately close off old wells.  Pending.
bulletFEMA Ice Storm 2010 – All FEMA documents complete for ice storm damage to water system and other qualified areas.  Received $35,757.86.    
bulletApplication has been made to USDA for a Loan/Grant in the amount of $4.3 million for water system replacement and repairs (some of which has already been done with smaller grants listed above).  This will provide the funds to finish the new wells, replace remaining main line into town, new fire hydrants, new city water lines, and new meters.  Residents will be responsible for all water lines from the main to the structure.  If we are selected for assistance it is definite that USDA will set new water rates just as they did for the sewer assistance. 
bullet2012 COEDD REAP - $50,000 – towers and work to comply with DEQ requirements for well field in floodplain.  (In progress)
bullet2012 OWRB REAP - $98,435 - Pipe Replacement at Well Field and Construction of Tower - Scheduled for recommendation for approval FY 2012 when funding becomes available

 

Citizens/Community

bullet2009 HOME Grant – OFHA - $325,000 – 4 new homes complete Nov/Dec to Bobbi Cooley, Cleo Kelly, Mr & Mrs Finch, and Sandra Reed Alexander. Closed.
bullet2009 COEDD CIP - $19,100 – underground mapping, canalysis and cpital inventory assistance.  Awarded but RETURNED due to lack of staffing to assist at the time.
bullet2010 OGE Foundation/Keep Oklahoma Beautiful - $250 – Spring Cleanup. Closed
bullet Stonebrook Village and Stonebrook Estates – 18 single family homes and 10 senior citizen duplexes (20 units).  While this is a private development, the City did have to apply to be selected and has worked tirelessly with the developer. 
bullet2010 Building Health Communities Grant by Home Depot - $2000 received for trees and supplies for landscaping new section of cemetery.  Complete and Closed.   

 

 

Grants we have applied for but did not receive:

bullet2010-11 COEDD REAP - $23,000 received.  COEDD tried to submit as part of a CDBG Combo grant but we already had a CDBG for water so had to withdraw resulting in loss of the original $23,000.
bullet2010 AFG Fire rescue Truck - $41,950
bullet2009 FEMA FSC - $38,300 – building exhaust removal system, turnout gear lockers and commercial a/c.
bullet2011 JAG GRANT - Police Radios - $8,664.

Ñ  Know who the council person is in your ward and talk to them

Ñ  Run for future council positions

Ñ  Attend Council Meetings the 2nd Thurs of each month 6:30 pm 

Ñ  Attend Public Hearings for Grants

Ñ  Attend Town Hall Meetings

Ñ  Check the internet www.cityofkonawa.com

Ñ  Like the City of Konawa Facebook page

Ñ  Call and ask questions

Ñ  Read the newspaper

Ñ  Check the information board at City Hall for announcements

Ñ  Come in, have a seat and visit with us

Ñ  Volunteer for a day to help either in the office or outside with the guys

Ñ  Come to Community Work Days

Ñ  Take initiative to spruce up something at the park or downtown on your own
